Outcome of my repurposed furniture

UPDATE: Click here to read a more recent (newer pics) post of this Lack table.

So it didn't take a day to build the frame for my repurposed IKEA Lack side table as promised by the metal shop (referring to previous blog post). But I'm not complaining because it was well worth the wait. In 2 days my IKEA side table was transformed from THIS:

TO THIS:

What do you think? Are we a furniture designer in the making? Just kidding. But honestly it's not bad right?! Certainly a vast improvement from what it was before.

Dont forget to check out this more recent post on the above table.

  1. You did a great job. It is amazing how much more updated the table looks. I sell furniture for a living full time and could never do that!

  2. Thanks. Fortunately I didn't have to do any work, just had to come up with the idea and have someone else execute =) Makes it a whole lot easier.

  4. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm looking to repurpose a Lack Coffee Table top, 35" x 22", I found. But I intended to find standard legs and make it a full height work surface. By the way, you don't mention how much the new base cost. Seeing what you've done, I'm reconsidering my actions. Thanks!!!

  5. @architect54: I think IKEA also sells legs separately if you're interested in going the IKEA route. If you want a custom look at a more affordable price I wonder if you might be able to find a furniture designer student and have them build something to your liking.

I paid about abt $60 for the base. I didn't do any price comparison so I don't know how it compares to other metalshops.

Good luck with your project, if you're able to, let me know how it turns out.

  7. Who made the legs for you? What kind of craftsman do you go about hiring for such a task?

  8. @Laura, went to a metal/welding shop to have the legs made. The welder had scrap pieces of square metal tubes that were the perfect size for what I had in mind. He cut it according to the design I had in mind and the IKEA top simply rests on the frame and is also screwed in place.

  9. Would never have noticed the imperfections had you not pointed them out! I've always wished I had a relative who was a veterenarian or one who owned a dry cleaners. Alas, I only have several welders in my fam. Time to make a phone call to get a new base for my Lack coffee table!

  13. Its as if you had a great grasp on the subject matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from more than one angle. pay weekly sofas

  14. Going to graduate school was a positive decision for me. I enjoyed the coursework, the presentations, the fellow students, and the professors. And since my company reimbursed 100% of the tuition, the only cost that I had to pay on my own was for books and supplies. Otherwise, I received a free master’s degree. All that I had to invest was my time. pay weekly sofas
